Pull Up A Chair

The Great Depression, Valdosta Georgia
I call her Mommy, she took good care of me
I was sixteen washing some dishes
Lost to my cousin at the spelling bee

I met Rufus, he was a gospel church singer
Loved to hear him sing so low
We got wed, Waycross to Ohio
Not a day goes by, I don’t miss him so

CH: Pull up your chair, there’s a spot at the table
I made us some sweet potato pie
Everyone is here, gathered together
Feels so good, to see what, our love has become

I remember it being cold in Cleveland
But we set out, to make it our home
We brought three peaches, added four buckeyes
As the years went past, they became grown

Put the plates, in the sink for the washing
Grab a towel, you can help me dry
We’ll listen to all the children talking
So many blessings that we cannot deny

CH: Pull up your chair, there’s a spot at the table
I made us some sweet potato pie
Everyone is here, gathered together
Feels so good, to see what, out love has become

I won’t complain, I’ve had good days and bad
I’ve been to the mountains rough side
I’ve come to know, what my Mommy means
If the clothes are dirty, the house it ain’t clean

Treat others how you want to be treated
Pray every morning, God will renew
There is nothing, that makes me feel better
Clean house and family, in the kitchen cooking food

CH: Pull up your chair, there’s a spot at the table
I made us some sweet potato pie
Everyone is here, gathered together
Feels so good, to see what, out love has become
