Take My Roots With Me

I’ve had my dream since I was 13

Became a nurse and I know what it means to respect life

Because we all bleed red

My father taught us to know our roots

I’ve embraced my African heritage since my youth

I take it with me everywhere I go

My parents met here, both from other states

Bought this house when I was 5 and I still live here today
